Dear Lakewood families,
The MCPS Crown/Damascus Boundary Study Survey deadline is today, January 9. This Boundary Study will help shape our Wootton community for years to come. If you have not already done so, we strongly encourage you to complete the survey and make your voices heard! Don't forget to complete the Additional Feedback section of the survey where you can enter your comments.
At our PTA meeting earlier this week, families engaged in a thoughtful and respectful discussion about proposed options A through H. Overwhelmingly, our community has expressed opposition to Option H. We want Wootton to remain together and on Wootton Parkway.
Key concerns raised included, but were not limited to:
The permanent closure of Wootton High School and the reassignment of students to Crown High School (with no confirmation yet of the high school’s final name).
The loss of the close proximity and collaboration between Robert Frost Middle School and Wootton High School, a uniquely connected campus where middle school students benefit from access to high school facilities and high school students serve as tutors and mentors.
Uncertainty about the future of the current Wootton High School building, which could be abandoned or renovated for use as a long-term holding school.
These concerns reflect our community’s deep commitment to student experience, school continuity, and neighborhood cohesion. Whether you share these views or hold a different perspective, your individual feedback is essential. The Board of Education needs to hear directly from families about what matters most to them.
Please take a few minutes to complete the Boundary Study survey and help ensure our community’s voice is part of this important decision-making process.
Regards,
Sarah Haque
